Safety Policy For Students

To make our school safer and healthier by exceeding and not just meeting expectations. We hold safety and health as our highest value and it is never compromised.

Mission Statement

The mission of SMIS is to collaboratively assist educators, parents, students, emergency responders and community organizations to create a safer school environment for all by assisting our schools in preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and crisis situations. We look at safety as a continuously monitored indicator of quality.

Steps taken to ensure safety-

  • The whole school is under constant surveillance through the CCTV placed at strategic locations (entry/exit points, labs, classrooms, play areas and corridors).
  • Every visitor is checked and permitted access after proper verification. Entry is penned in the visitors register.
  • Police verification of bus drivers is mandatorily adhered to by the school. Forms with respect to the said is required to be submitted by the drivers. In case parents avail the private van services, forms regarding the same should be endorsed by the parents.
  • Class/subject teachers record daily attendance at the beginning and the end of the day.
  • All working areas around children (classrooms, computer labs, library, art room, and auditorium) are maintained regularly (in terms of furniture and fixtures, electrical and sports equipment) and follow child safety norms.
  • Children are mandatorily asked to wear lab coats in all laboratories which are manned constantly by experienced technicians.
  • Entrance to terrace is locked. Entry is permitted for authorised personnel only under supervision. Water tanks are covered and sealed at all times.
  • Computer labs have restricted entry. The computers have restricted access to the websites for both staff and students.
  • In case of any accidents, first-aid protocol is followed by the designated nurse who provides first aid treatment within the limits of her skills, expertise, and training. The first aid kit is provided and managed for by the school in the infirmary. In case of emergencies, the hospitals in the vicinity are on call.
  • Separate washrooms are maintained on each floor for students which are monitored by the floor janitor at all times. These are well ventilated, routinely disinfected, dry and non-slippery at all times. Washrooms for staff and visitors are maintained separately.
  • Fire drills and evacuation techniques in case of natural or man-made calamities are taught to all in school. Mock drills are conducted on a regular basis. Fire extinguishers and water hoses are serviced regularly.
  • A counsellor is on board to address any emotional, behavioural, psychological issues faced by the students. Teachers are regularly oriented through workshops to identify and understand students undergoing trauma and bring it to the notice of authority. Parents and students are also oriented for the same.
  • Students are sensitized towards the harmful effects of bullying, ragging and shaming. They are sensitised towards digital / cyber-crimes like-stalking, bullying, fake profiling, circulation of morphed pictures or images or memes and asked to report such issues.
